King of the Mountain Enduro

What is the King of the Mountain All-Mountain Enduro Race?  It is an event that is open to riders of all ability levels which will incorporate various aspects of Mountain Biking including: downhill, cross-country and trail riding.  Enduro racing combines the best elements of racing and group riding by allowing participants to experience the thrills and challenges of racing while still enjoying the social aspects of riding with friends.

NEW! New for this year we have linked our race with Burke Mountain Kingdom Enduro and Highland Over-Mountain Enduro to create the East Coast Enduro Triple Crown.  Racers who take part in all three races will compete for the overall series title and cash and prizes provided by Mavic and Shimano.

Date:  Sunday October 6th (Pre-Ride with Jeff Lenosky Saturday October 5th)

Format: The King of the Mountain Enduro race will be comprised of several timed “special” stages and non timed “transport” stages.  The “specials” will  consist primarily of downhill and technical sections but riders should expect to climb up to 10-20% of the total distance of each stage.  The “transport” stages between each "special" will move riders from one area of the mountain to the other and may include some significant climbs.

The riders with the fastest cumilative time at the completion of the race will be crowned the winner.

Lite Enduro Event:
Novice riders and those new to racing may choose to participate in the Lite Enduro Event.  This novice event will consist of 3 stages and 1 bonus challenge on our more intermediate terrain.  Open to amateurs only.

King of the Mountain Enduro:
This race is geared toward more advanced riders who want to accept the  challenge of competing for the overall King of the Mountain title.  This race will build upon the Lite Enduro stages adding 2 additional stages which utilize the some of the more difficult, expert, steep, rocky terrain that the mountain has to offer.

*All Riders must complete the entire race on the same bike.  Riders must choose their weapon carefully… You’ll want a bike that climbs efficiently and will still hold up to the pounding of our downhill terrain.  Our recommendation is a full-suspension trail bike with at least 5” of travel or the equivalent (29’er).  Full-face helmets and protective equipment are reccomended for the King of the Mountain participants.

Stages:

Part of the fun of Enduro races is getting to ride terrain that is traditionally not open or suitable to racing.  The King of the Mountain race will utilize the various terrain elements that the Mountain Creek Bike Park and the surrounding resort has to offer.

We have partnered once again with Mavic and Shimano athlete Jeff Lenosky to assist us in the course design and layout for our race and we promise that it will be a fun and challenging event in the true spirit of the Enduro style format.

The 2013 course has not been finalized yet but here are the stages from last year's event to give you a flavor of the challenges we have planned...
